Refresh your wardrobe

Spring is the perfect time to declutter and shed a skin- spring being synonymous with new beginnings.

Clothes are a representation of who we are, so when we want change in our lives, focusing on our wardrobe is a good place to start.

As the days grow warmer we naturally start wearing lighter clothes- so it's also a good time to reorganise our wardrobes.

Heres my guide to a weekend wardrobe declutter and reorganise:

Put aside 2-4 hours depending on how big your wardrobe is.

Get several bags ready and label them 'charity, give away, bin, sell'.

  1. Start with your winter clothes.

Declutter in sections: jumpers/ trousers/jeans/ long sleeved tops etc...

Start by getting out all of one section ie. jumpers.

Go through each item, check the condition and ask yourself if it's something that still looks good or is it past its prime?

You may have items that you've kept for years, but do they feel like you anymore?

Another good question is 'does this feel like who I am now?' or 'do I want to take this into my future life?'.

If there are clothes you have bought or are keeping for 'when i've lost weight', you may want to consider how looking at them makes you feel.

It could be that they bring up feelings of inadaquacy or shame. They tell us that we are not good enough as we are.

Saying goodbye to clothes that don't fit you, is a way of accepting who you are now.

2. The next step is to put into storage any warmer clothes you have decided to keep.

A good storage solution is large plastic containers which are labelled, or if room is tight then Vacum packing is a good idea.

3. Next bring out your spring/summer clothes and go through the same process.

Again, ask yourself whether this item feels like who you are now.

You may be suprised that items you thought were gorgeous, no longer feel like something you want to wear.

Perhaps your style has changed or the colours you prefer.

Let these go with gratitude, thanking them for the role they have played in your life.

Remember, if you donate them they can go to someone who will enjoy them as you have.

4. After you have finished decluttering, sort your clothes into catagories. For example, shirts, skirts, jeans etc..

Re-home them using these categories or ones you prefer such as work, casual, leisure- whatever makes sense to you.

Make sure that the most used are the most accessable.

Lastly, look over the clothes you've kept and feel a strong sense of who you are now.

Time to move forward into your new life!
