Welcome to part 2 to your guide to autumn decluttering.
So now you've got your wardrobe in good shape, it's time to start on the hallway.
Many halls are filled with piles of coats hanging precariously from pegs, bags on the floor, an overflowing shoe rack and piles of post!
This makes it difficult to find what you’re looking for, without ending up with a pile of coats on your head! It also means that leaving your house is stressful and not a welcome sight to come home to.
Imagine coming back to a tidy and organised hallway, where everything has it’s place.
You feel calm and on top of things, everything is where it should be.
Follow my 5 step plan to create your ideal space.
1. Seasonal organisation.
This is a great way to scale down the amount you have hanging up.
As we move into autumn weather, you can put away your summer jackets and winter coats. Only keeping relevant coats out, will seriously reduce the amount you have on your hooks.
Put your other coats and jackets into storage (preferably in see through containers with labels).
2. Declutter miscellaneous items.
An old glove, tatty scarf and random bags, are taking up valuable space. You’ll be amazed at how many have been unused for years.
Go through each item and decide whether you need this in your life!
Remember you can recycle unusable textiles- Go to this website to find your local recycling place: https://www.recyclenow.com
3. Take the items you have decided to keep and organise them into sections.
Have specific storage for each activity or use. For example, you could have a box for winter items such as scarves, hats and gloves, a box for bike related things like helmets and an area for your work bag.
·4. Sort out your shoe rack: You don’t need your hiking boots to be by the door as you don’t use them every day. The same goes for wellingtons, going out shoes and trainers you don’t use regularly.
Store them elsewhere and use the rack for every day shoes to reduce the clutter.
5. Lastly, enjoy your hallway. Make it a welcoming place so you want to keep it tidy.
Put a scented candle or pictures you love, so leaving and coming back home becomes a calm and nourishing experience.
